Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is one of the most common chronic medical conditions worldwide and affects all age groups. First-line management in CRS patient consists of nasal flushing with NaCl solution and topical intranasal corticosteroid spray. Meanwhile, functional endoscopic sinus surgery (PSEF) is a recognized, well-established, and safe invasive intervention option for reopening sinus ostia in patients with CRS that are difficult to treat with medical therapy. However, the PSEF procedure has a tendency to cause complications such as postoperative epistaxis, inflammation, infection, meatal obstruction, synechia formation, and adhesions. Administration of corticosteroids and antibiotics can reduce the probability of these complications, but there are side effects caused by oral preparations and lack of drug penetration in topical preparations. Bioabsorbable nasal packing containing betamethasone and ciprofloxacin can minimize these deficiencies and increase efficacy in postoperative functional endoscopic sinus surgery in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis.
